Most manufacturers recommend applying another coat after 1 or 2 years, and additional maintenance coats every 5 years. Most homeowners are unaware their home needs this level of attention. So what we've seen over the years is that they are calling us after it’s been long overdue for a coat of stain. They are often damaged by UV rays and moisture which leads to fading, warping, mold, and discoloration. As dust, dirt, and pollen collects on a home, it prevents stain from reflecting UV rays and absorbs more heat leading to fading. The South and West sides of homes fare the worst and boards will warp and develop cracks. And it's not just that the house looks bad... if it's not fixed soon enough, then it will need new siding, which can cost $30,000 or more.
